Common theory questions

May a car fitted with studded winter tyres tow a trailer fitted with non-studded winter tyres?

No, when winter tyres are required the trailer must have tyres that are as good or better than those on the car towing it.

When you are required to use winter tyres and winter road conditions apply, the following rules apply:

You are allowed to:

  • Use studded tyres on the car and studded tyres on the trailer.
  • Use non-studded winter tyres on the car and studded tyres on the trailer.
  • Use non-studded tyres on the car and non-studded tyres on the trailer.

You are not allowed to:

  • Use studded tyres on the car and non-studded tyres on the trailer.
  • Use summer tyres on the car or trailer.
