Common theory questions

When do you always have to contact the police after a traffic accident?

You must always contact the police after a traffic accident if:

  • Someone has been seriously injured.
  • Someone else's property (a parked car, for example) has been damaged and the owner cannot be reached.
  • You have hit any of the following animals: moose, deer, roe deer, wild boar, lynx, wolverine, mouflon sheep, bear, otter, wolf or eagle.
  • A traffic device has been damaged or dislodged in such a way that you cannot restore it yourself.

If you see someone driving recklessly or if you suspect drunk driving, you should also contact the police, but you are not obligated to do so.
