Common theory questions

What should you do if you are forced to make an emergency stop on a motorway?

If you are forced to make an emergency stop on a motorway or clearway, you should:

  • Stop as far as possible from the carriageway.
  • Turn on the hazard warning lights.
  • Put out a warning triangle 50-100 metres behind the car.
  • Move your car as soon as possible.

If you are on a road with poor visibility or insufficient lighting, you must switch on the parking lights as well.
